GAG CITY Gossip Girl

Nicki is proof that a woman can build an empire out of her imagination, and finance the dream herself.

The Pink Friday 2 World Tour, also known by fans as the Gag City Tour, became one of the highest-grossing rap tours by a woman in history, eventually surpassing $100 million in revenue and breaking records for female rap touring. The production was massive: towering visuals, elaborate costume changes, cinematic interludes, dancers, pink dreamscapes, and an immersive stage design that transformed arenas into Nicki’s world.

Reviews described the experience as theatrical, emotional, glamorous, and deeply connected to every era of her career.

What stands out most is the level of ownership behind it.

In entertainment, self-financing a large-scale tour production is incredibly risky.

Touring at this level costs millions of dollars before a single ticket is sold. Labels and promoters often control budgets, stage concepts, creative direction, and even artist decisions because they are fronting the money.

For a woman artist to finance her own vision means she is not waiting for permission.

She is becoming the investor, the executive, the architect, and the face of the product all at once.

That matters.

Women in music, especially women in hip-hop, are often expected to fit inside systems built and controlled by men. Historically, male rappers have been praised for ownership, business moves, and executive power, while women artists are more frequently reduced to aesthetics, drama, or chart performance. Nicki shifting into a role where she could reportedly bankroll and control aspects of her own touring empire challenges that dynamic entirely.

Another day another slay!
